Carl Fieger worked in the architecture offices of Peter Behrens, Walter Gropius and Adolf Meyer. At Gropius in Dessau, he was significant involved in many iconic modernist buildings. After World War II, he planned and built the first prefabricated building in Berlin as an employee at the Deutsche Bauakademie Berlin/ East (1953).

Characteristic of Fieger´s work are the radical implementations of miniapartments, with bold coloring and curves, which are already recognizable in the floor plans of his buildings. In his own buildings, Fieger´s playful handling of standards is evident, with prefabricated components and new construction materials – always in interaction with the interior design, which he designed to match the architecture.

For the architecture of the exhibition, Fieger´s approaches and thus the standard issue of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation were raised to a design principle. An exhibition system of standardized materials has been developed with concrete walkway slabs and theater-lathes. The wall modules allow flexible floor plans and room layouts for the presentation of the extensive exhibits collection of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation.

The core of the exhibition is a 50 square meter printed floor covering with the original floor plan of Fieger´s own small house in Dessau on a scale of 1: 1.
