The exhibition shows photographic works commissioned by West German and East German companies between 1949 and 1990.
The industrial sectors of coal, steel, chemicals, textiles and automobiles are examined comparatively. In addition to the photographs, print media such as magazines, advertising brochures and posters are shown in which they were used. In this way, the exhibition focuses on the ideas associated with the historical image sources and illuminates differences and similarities in the depictions of progress - and thus the promise of a better life - in East and West.
