Exhibition about classical optical film tricks Be it the magical projections 100 years ago, or the grand premier of infernal affairs in recent years, we are being reminded again and again that film tricks and special effects are playing an important role in film productions. (…)
In an attempt to recap some of our forefathers’ painstaking endeavours, we are organizing this film tricks exhibition with input from a country that took special effects very seriously already in the 1920s. Experts from “Studio Five” at the DEFA Studio in Babelsberg, Germany, join hands with the Hong Kong Film Archive to rebuild some classic “film tricks” settings for us to revisit in the “Tricky Wonderland.” Our exhibition hall will be turned into a playground of film magic where visitors can play around with gadgets like a travelling mirror, matte painting, and chroma key.
